KS1 learn about the job of a nurse

This week KS1 have started their new topic called 'Saving Lives'. We talked about all the different sorts of people who help us and then focussed on jobs that help others.

Today we had a visit from Jenny who is a community nurse, so she visits people in their homes such as the elderly or people who have just come out of hospital.

Jenny told us about her uniform and showed us some of the equipment she uses in her job, such as a thermometer, bandages and dressings, stethoscope and a sphygmomanometer (sphyg for short! This measures blood pressure.)

Jenny also showed us how she'd bandage a hurt ankle.

The children listened carefully and asked some thoughtful questions, such as 'What are the most common illnesses you deal with?' 'Is your job stressful?' and 'Do you work in a hospital?'
