School Council

Year 6 School Council Chairperson

Each year, our pupils elect a Year 6 Chairperson to lead the School Council. Candidates prepare and deliver speeches to the whole school, giving every child the opportunity to listen to their ideas and cast their vote.

The elected Chairperson plays an important role in leading School Council meetings and helping to organise special events throughout the year. The School Council meets at least once every half term to discuss a wide range of topics, including school improvement ideas, pupil wellbeing, and community initiatives.

Class Councillors

Class Councillors act as representatives for their classes, gathering the views and suggestions of their classmates and sharing them at School Council meetings. They then provide feedback to their classes, ensuring that all pupils have a voice and can contribute to decisions that help make our school an even better place to learn and grow.

Why do we have a School Council?

Through the School Council, pupils learn about the importance of democracy, one of the fundamental British Values. By taking part in elections, voting for representatives, and sharing their opinions respectfully, children develop an understanding of how democratic processes work and how individual voices can contribute to positive change. The School Council provides a meaningful opportunity for pupil voice, empowering children to influence aspects of school life while developing leadership, communication, and citizenship skills that will benefit them in the future.
